Today's Stock Market (2016.02.16)

Daily Analysis
Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P by closing time (5:16pm ET)

Dow and Nasdaq during market hours

  • All 3 indexes rose and recovered from last week
    • All three indexes dropped for a moment at early hours but it eventually rose consistently
  • Oil prices also rose today compared to last week when it hit its lowest since 2003
    • $29.21 per barrel (6:34pm ET)
International markets
  • China has invested a lot of money in Latin America; last year they offered $65 Billion to Latin America. However, many of the investments that they made are tanking, and it is going bust right now.
  • Oil prices have soared 5% today, but it looks like its going to give up as the discussion between OPEC and other oil rich countries go invalid.
  • The Stock market seems to be unpredictable as time goes by. Even though OPEC's announcement dropped oil price again, the indexes ended higher and stocks surged again.
Individual Analysis
  • Groupon(GRPN), a social commerce company, rose 41% as Alibaba (BABA), a Chinese online commerce company decides to buy 33 million shares of their stock.
  • Home security company, ADT(ADT), is bought for around $7 billion, which caused their shares rise nearly 50% today.
